A friendly welcome!

A warm welcome to my Counselling services website! I am Louise and I have been working as an adult and young person's Counsellor/Psychotherapist for 17 years.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, struggling with low mood or anxiety? Maybe you are worried about your young persons mental health? If you can relate, I have the experience and knowledge to empower you in getting back to where you want to be with your mental health.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, stressful and very fast paced and may throw curve balls our way often very unexpectedly, resulting in a huge range of emotions on top of everyday life demands.
If you are struggling with your feelings, you are certainly not alone. As human beings, we all experience times in our lives that can feel like though we are walking through quicksand.
Whatever your unique reasons for seeking counselling, therapy can offer you a safe space to explore the main issues you wish to focus on, helping you to gain further insight around your feelings and work towards the changes you wish to make that feel right for you.

About me

I understand that it can feel daunting going to meet a Counsellor for the first time having attended counselling in my late teens and early twenties. My therapist helped me to make successful and significant changes in my life that empowered me to heal from the past and move forward with my life. Counselling was a transformational experience for me, and I have never looked back!

I have the professional experience and knowledge to help you improve your mental health. Working alongside you, identifying the specific goals you wish to work towards will help to guide our sessions. For some people, for successful change to happen, I can offer creative art materials and a wide range of emotional strategies to help you express how you are feeling and allow for the healing process to begin.

I offer individual sessions both face to face and via online video call's for a range of issues. Alongside my private counselling work, I also facilitate regular creative art group work throughout Essex and within educational settings and is an area of specialism that I hold close to my heart. My Counselling and group work spans over a decade with both adults and young people. Attending a therapeutic course or workshop can also offer you a sense of connection with others whilst using art as a way of expressing your feelings in a gentle and safe way. Check out my upcoming workshop page for information.

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy and work within the Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions (2018) which can be found at the link below:
I able to offer online evening/and Saturday morning sessions and I can currently offer limited face to face daytime sessions on selected weekdays during school term time only. This is from my small home office in Heybridge, Essex. Please note my office is located on the first floor of my home (up one flight of stairs). I own 2 indoor cats and despite it being rare for them to be around the therapy room during face to face sessions, please do let me know if you have any fur allergies.

My therapeutic Approach
I am proud to be a Person Centred Psychotherapist, holding a strong belief that as human being's, there is always the opportunity for personal growth and change's in life. I view that change can be embraced when the ideal conditions for emotional growth are offered in a trusting, non judgemental and empathic relationship.

Placing "you" as the expert on your own personal experiences, offers the opportunity for you to become more open with your true self, learning to trust your own inner radar as well as empowering you to seek changes in life that feel right for you.

My way of working would always be from your perspective whilst exploring the things you wish work on in therapy. I work at a pace that feels right for you without me interpreting or analysing your experiences.

Person Centred Creative Art

I can offer you the opportunity to use creative arts materials during our sessions. You do not need to be an expert or have art qualification's to be creative, just a willingness to be curious in discovering meaning in your image with guided support from myself.

Creating art during therapy can be a truly insightful experience for adults and young people, helping you to process deeply held emotions. This approach can enable self-awareness and emotional healing and yet is a very gentle way to work with all age groups.

How can Person Centred sessions help me?
One to one sessions online are for 50 minutes a week. Online therapy sessions would offer you to work at your pace (long or short term work), focusing on the issues that you wish to work on.

I maintain the view that "you" are the expert of your own feelings and lived experiences. I work from your perspective whilst validating and exploring your inner world throughout our work together. This is to help you to acknowledge and accept your true feelings.
I work in a non directive way to help empower you to find solutions in your life that feel right for you in line with your own core values, rather than the values of others.

How can Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Person Centred sessions help my young person?

I work in blocks of 6 week sessions and support young people with befriending feelings of anxiety, panic, low mood and learning ways to manage low self esteem and unhelpful thinking styles.

There maybe home activities that can enable the work we do together in therapy come to life focusing on you putting into practice the strategies we have looked at together.
The Cognitive behavioural approach focuses upon the links between unhelpful thoughts behaviours, physical symptoms and feelings and how a vicious cycle can be reinforced through avoidance and unhelpful behaviours you may have developed as a way of coping with difficult feelings.
Through making small changes to negative and unbalanced thoughts or unhelpful behaviours, you can start changing the vicious cycle of low mood, anxiety or low self esteem and live life in a way that feels more balanced and in tune with who you truly are.

Testimonial's

"I recently took part in a creative therapeutic art course. Louise was a brilliant facilitator, offering a safe, non-judgmental, and open space for attendees to stretch their creativity, and delve deeper into their art work. I came away each week feeling a little lighter having enjoyed spending some time doing art (with a whole host of materials and supplies!) as well as learning more about myself in the process. Would highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested! Thank you Louise!

I recently completed a 4 week creative arts course and I was sad to reach the end! Louise offered a safe and welcoming space, with lots of materials, careful planning and thought. I had the opportunity to try and experience being creative using different mediums, explore any thoughts and feelings that came up. I have learnt new things about myself and others, whilst taking away some new skills and techniques to use moving forward. Thank you Louise! I look forward to attending more courses in the future"

"Louise was amazing. She was so warm and welcoming. Her knowledge and way of working during the sessions made the whole creating process really helpful. I definitely want to attend more creative art sessions with Louise. "
